Charging points surge as UK strives for green motoring

The number of electric car charging points for public use went up by 9% from 1 October 2021 to 1 January 2022, according to Department for Transport figures.

There are now 2,448 more available charging devices across the country.

Publicly accessible rapid charging devices increased by 233, a 5% rise in three months.

This brings the total of publicly accessible charging points nationwide to 28,375, of which 5,156 are rapid charging devices.

A new competition is challenging school, college and university students around Exeter to discover and share the stories of lesser known LGBTQ+ scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians and medics.

Ahead of LGBTQ+ history month in February, the Queer Science Competition (QSC), was launched on 24 January by PRISM Exeter – in association with the University of Exeter, Intercom Trust, Exeter College, Devon Schools Leadership Services and Exeter Science Centre.

The University of Exeter has announced that Quentin Woodley is to be the new Chair of Council, the University’s governing body, and Pro-Chancellor with effect from 1 August 2022.

Repair Shop presenter Jay Blades is taking part in a new BBC documentary which will follow his journey as he faces up to the challenge of learning to read as an adult with charity Read Easy UK.

Jay concealed his inability to read until he was in his 30s, after he struggled to learn to read as a child. A new partnership from Co-op and Cruse Bereavement Support is aiming to help people talk about death and grief more openly, as the nation continues to emerge from the devastating effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Food Charity appeals for retired volunteers

FoodCycle , the charity that aims to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past for every community, is in urgent need of volunteers. This month, FoodCycle will invest in a national recruitment campaign to try to entice more people to join them.
