The South West of England’s tech sector is set to grow to almost £20bn gross value added (GVA) a year by 2026, creating over 125,000 new jobs, according to a new study from Whitecap Consulting.

The research, commissioned by Tech South West, reveals that the South West is rapidly becoming a global leader in environmental tech, with Devon an internationally recognised hub at the forefront of climate research. Devon's tech sector has 1,980 companies and a 598,400-strong workforce, generating £1,141m GVA in 2021.

Mental health impact of Covid still being felt, study finds

The deterioration in people’s mental health linked to COVID-19 is showing no sign of returning to pre-pandemic levels, a new study finds.

Researchers from the University of Exeter Business School and the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow used the UK Household Longitudinal Study to compare the mental health of more than 10,000 UK individuals.

They found that on average mental distress in the height of the pandemic in April 2020 was 11 percent higher than it was before the pandemic in 2017-19.

A sponsored swimming challenge which raises vital funds for Diabetes UK returns this spring – and a call has gone out for people from the south-west to sign up.

Leading housing association Sovereign is working with crowdfunding platform Crowdfunder to invest in employment and training projects.

Sovereign Housing Association will invest nearly half a million pounds over the next two years in giving young people a voice in their housing and community future.
