The importance of Devon’s “Share this Space” campaign is being highlighted as part of Bike Week 2022 (6-12 June).

Devon County Council wants to encourage more people to cycle more often, and its Share this Space campaign aims to promote patience on the county’s roads, paths and multi-use trails.

People are being reminded of the following advice:

– Cyclists are asked to please pass walkers slowly and carefully, letting people know you’re there and giving them space;

– Dog walkers on shared paths are asked to keep dogs under close control on a short lead...

Residents urged not to leave glass beside full recycling banks

People in Exeter are being encouraged not to leave glass bottles around recycling banks in the city and to take them home instead if the banks are full.

The request comes following the breakdown of the Council’s glass collection lorry.

Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for Recycling & Waterways, apologised for the inconvenience the breakdown has caused. She said: “We are doing everything we can to clear glass from sites around the city and to limit the impact this will have on residents, but please do not leave your glass on the floor around the banks.”

The Bowling Green , Exeter has raised around £5,000 for Devon Air Ambulance Trust through a ‘Big Shave; event. The pub is still accepting donations made in person at the pub and online through a JustGiving site.

The licensees, Nigel Cook and Saskia Russell were joined by Mike Knight, who lives in the area, and they all shaved their heads. The rediscovery of a unique visit by an African prince to Exeter has encouraged a researcher to find links between the city and the Eritrean Ethiopian region.

Seven-year-old Prince Alemayehu Tewodros was at St David’s Station – possibly on his way to meet Queen Victoria in 1868. Awet Araya, from the University of Exeter, is now working to find other links between Exeter and this part of Africa.
