Night of outstanding winners at Devon Sports Awards

Organisers of the Devon Sports Awards, Active Devon and The Exeter Foundation proclaimed last night’s glittering ceremony a huge success as over 250 people came together to celebrate a year of sporting success across the county.

Exeter and East Devon did particularly well winning five of the twelve categories including the coveted ‘Exeter Chiefs’ Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award, in addition to six runner up places.

The Cygnet Theatre in Exeter has been re-branded by Krage Design and has a new look Summer Brochure.

NGOs and shipping industry make joint call for review of legal discharge status of PIB

The number of seabirds recorded washed up on beaches in two incidents along the English Channel covered in polyisobutene (PIB) has passed 4,000.

Now, leading wildlife conservation and animal welfare charities and the UK Chamber of Shipping, supported by the wider industry body MaritimeUK, have come together as a single voice to call for an urgent review of the hazard classification status of PIB.

Devon & Somerset Trading Standards is warning residents to be on the look out for scams.

£35,000 up for grabs for sport in Budleigh Salterton

Budleigh Salterton parish residents are being asked to decide how to spend £35,000 available for sports in the area.

Budleigh Salterton Town Council and EDDC are taking their voting stall to Budleigh Gala Week, The Green, Budleigh Salterton on Saturday 25 May between 1pm and 4.30pm. So why not go along and cast your vote?

The money has come from recent housing developments (Section 106 money) in the parish. It is now up to residents to decide how the money is used.

Rural crime and policing highlighted at Devon County Show

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg will be discussing rural crime and policing issues on the opening morning of the Devon County Show 2013 (10am - 16 May). He will join Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer and the County Chairman of the Devon Young farmers, Paul Glanvill, for an open forum in the Young Farmers area. First-ever music video filmed in space

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who is set lo leave the International Space Station (ISS) on 14 May, released a video of himself singing the 1969 classic Space Oddity by David Bowie.
