The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (commonly abbreviated to ‘D of E’) was created in 1956, 57 years ago by – you’ll never guess – the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip. It was created as citizenship training for young people in the UK aged 14-25, to improve their life experiences, employability and physical fitness.

New banks in place to recycle energy-saving bulbs

East Devon residents can now recycle their energy-saving light bulbs thanks to a partnership between the district council, town councils and recycling specialists Recolight.

New bulb banks have been installed at the following locations across the district:-

Quantock Brewery beats Crowdfunding target by 20% to raise £120,000

Quantock Brewery set out to raise £100,000 on the Exeter-based equity crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube , but such was its popularity that the pitch overfunded and finally raised a grand total of £120,000. This takes Crowdcube’s funding total to £9.6 million for 56 pitches.

129 people are now part owners of this award-winning brewery based in the beautiful Quantock Hills in Somerset that has been brewing quality real ales in cask and bottles using traditional craft brewing techniques since 2007.

Chiefs confirm 2013/14 Fixtures

Exeter Chiefs will kick-off the 2013/14 Aviva Premiership season with a trip to Northampton Saints on Saturday 7 September (3pm).

The new fixtures were officially launched today in London at the BT Tower by former England skipper Lawrence Dallaglio, who will form part of the new BT Sport Channel that has exclusive rights to all televised top flight action. Help needed to identify Devon’s privately fostered children

Devon County Council is asking people across the county to help them identify children living under private fostering arrangements, so can they offer support and advice.

The call to action is part of Private Fostering Week starting on Monday 8 July. Run by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering , the week aims to raise awareness of private fostering. Children living with someone who isn't their parent or close relative for more than four weeks are classed as being privately fostered.
