Bacteria hold the clues to trade-offs in financial investments and evolution

Scientists have found that bacteria have the potential to teach valuable investment lessons. The research, published in the journal Ecology Letters , takes advantage of the fact that bacteria, like humans, have limited resources and are constantly faced with investment decisions. Bacteria though are successful with their investments and have colonised every inch of the surface of our planet.

The National Apprenticeship Service has launched a raft of new measures designed to help guide employers through the process of recruiting an apprentice. This follows yesterday’s announcement of the extension of the £1,500 Apprenticeship Grant for Employers of 16-24 year olds for another year. The grant, which is designed to help businesses (with fewer than 1000 employees) to recruit apprentices, has so far enabled over 30,000 young people to start an Apprenticeship. The Grecians ended pre-season in forceful fashion with a 7-1 victory away at Chippenham Town.

Changes made to the way social housing is allocated in Teignbridge

On Tuesday 30 July, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive approved a series of amendments to its social housing allocation policy.

The changes, which come into effective on 1 April 2014, are aimed at creating a fairer system while giving people access to the most suitable housing advice and support that is right for them, especially in more rural areas. Fun in the sun at Beer’s new play park

Local children and parents came along to the East Devon District Council (EDDC) Family Fun Day at Ash Hill Play Park in Beer on Monday 29 July.

As part of the day the £17,500 improvements to the play area were officially opened. The Chairman of Beer Parish Council, Martin Richards, cut the ribbon and declared the enhanced play area open and ready for fun.
