This is the first time Luke and Nicholas, who came third and second on The X Factor respectively, will have shared the stage since the show ended in December last year. Doctors in Devon encourage people to look in on the elderly

Doctors in Devon are asking people to look in on their elderly relatives, neighbours and friends now that the cold weather is setting in.

As part of the national ‘Winter Friends’ NHS Choices campaign, Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (NEW Devon CCG) has launched a short film to encourage people to keep an eye out for the elderly over the cold months.

The film was produced with the help of Devon Senior Voice and reminds people to check in on senior citizens and make sure they keep warm, do not feel lonely and are coping well.

Biggest jump in retail sales for nearly a decade.

Christmas retail sales have seen the highest rise in nine years according to a new report by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

The report showed that retail sales for December were up by 5.3% on the same period in 2012, a significantly higher rise than in previous years.

The report has surprised many financial forecasters as several big name brands revealing that they had performed under expectations in the Christmas period.

Supermarkets Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and department stores Debenhams and Marks and Spencer all performed under expectations...

Ex-Chiefs players on half-million

Two former professional rugby players have rowed more than 500,000 metres (310 miles) each in just over two weeks – as part of a challenge to raise money for charity. Sam Blythe and Shane Kingsland, who both played for Exeter Chiefs, want to row a million metres each as part of Janurow, which ends on January 31st. After starting on New Year’s Day they have been rowing every day and have now passed their halfway target of 500 kilometres. They have also recruited members of the public to help them reach their overall target of more than 11 million metres – the distance to the Philippines....

South West house sales hit six year high

The number of house sales in the South West has reached its highest point since 2007 according to a survey by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The survey showed that sales in December were more than double that f the lowest point of the downturn.

Prices are also rising with a net balance of 56 percent more chartered surveyors reported growing prices in the South West.

Significantly, every area of the UK saw prices increase with London and the South East experiencing the biggest jumps.

Race for Life 2014 launches in Exeter

Exeter women are being urged to join forces and show cancer who’s boss by signing up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2014 which is now open for entries. Women have now got the choice of signing up for a 5K or 10K Race for Life this summer in Exeter as event organisers look to challenge more ladies to take part.

Every day, around 84 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West *. Everyone is special, everyone is somebody’s mum, dad, brother, sister, friend or colleague.
