Russian Warships pass South West Coast

A group of Russian warships with nuclear capabilities has passed by the South West coast today as part of a routine transit into the North Atlantic.

Russian news agencies this morning reported that the aircraft-carrying cruiser the Admiral Kuznetsov and the heavy nuclear guided-missile cruiser Petr Velikiy had entered the English channel.

The Russian vessels have been shadowed through their transit by British destroyer, the HMS Dragon, in what the Royal Navy describes as a “well-established and standard response to such events.”

Exeter’s super slimmers support Clothes Throw

Exeter’s Slimmers have joined together to spring-clean their wardrobes and donate their clothes to Cancer Research UK in support of the national fundraising campaign ‘The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’.

Members of all the Exeter and Crediton Slimming World groups are collecting all their unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories to donate to their local Cancer Research UK shop to support the campaign which runs from May 5th for two weeks. Each single bag collected could raise around £25 for the charity.

Thousands prepare for Ten Tors challenge

Thousands of young people will set off on the 2014 Ten Tors challenge this weekend, spending two days in small self-sufficient teams walking through some of the most stunning scenery Dartmoor has to offer.

Dartmoor National Park Authority has been working closely with the Army in terms of route changes and providing training to team managers to ensure that the event has minimum impact on the fabric of the moor and its wildlife.

Police investigate after knifepoint robbery in Tiverton

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Tiverton yesterday (7th May). Just before 1.00pm at the entrance to People’s Park, the offender threatened an 18-year-old victim with a knife before stealing money and a mobile phone. The suspect is also believed to have approached another man in the walk way between Morrison’s supermarket and Market Carpets shortly before this incident but nothing was stolen. Police are keen to trace 5 school children who may have witnessed this incident.

TOWIE star to visit Arena Nightclub

Exeter club Arena will be making a big ‘splash’ when TV personality Dan Osborne makes a guest appearance on Saturday (10 May).

The star of hit shows Splash and The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) will meet and greet clubbers at the Summerland Street venue and pose for pictures with his army of fans.

Arena’s general manager Alex George said: “It’s great to welcome Dan Osborne to our venue. He has a massive fan based and we’re confident that he will be big hit and give our customers a night to remember.”

Update: Police have confrimed they have detained a man in Tideford after reports he was armed and making threats.

The A38, which was closed as a precaution, is now open.

Police say there is no danger to public.

Easter egg campaign a 'cracker'

Local charity Hospiscare encouraged local people and businesses to get involved with their Easter campaign by raffling an Easter egg in their local community.

Amongst those that took part were the University of Exeter, The Hospiscare retails shops and many more.

Hospiscare provided participants with a yummy Easter egg and lucky squares which could be raffled off for just £1 per entry.

The Fore Street shop in Exeter raised an amazing £200 selling their tickets, and Drakes Cafe in Exeter raffled an egg as well as donating to help with their campaign.
