Youth service staffing numbers to halve

Every district in Devon will have a specialist youth centre hub with professional staff, following a decision by Devon County Council’s Cabinet yesterday (June 11).

The eight hubs will work with the most vulnerable young people, as well as providing three open sessions for all youngsters each week and expertise for community groups which want to set up their own sessions.

There will also be extra funding to assist communities to develop their own local youth offer using council buildings and other assets.

With warmer weather, lighter evenings and six weeks until Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Exeter, Devon women are being urged to put a spring in their step by signing up to the 5k or new 10k event.

Taking part in Race for Life at Westpoint Arena is a great way for women of all shapes and sizes to enjoy the outdoors and get a little more active as they prepare for their event.

Committing to take part, and encouraging their mums, grans, daughters, sisters and friends to join them, gives participants a target to aim for, in terms of getting a bit fitter and raising money...

River Cottage Celebrates with chef apprentice Graduates

River Cottage Chefs’ School are celebrating with the first of their apprentice chef graduates after completing an intensive 12-month programme.

The 11 ecstatic graduates were the first of 74 apprentices currently studying on the Young Chef Apprentice Scheme – a professional and personal journey that aims to equip young learners with the skills they need to enter the catering industry. They marked their final day by cooking a banquet for themselves and their tutors to showcase the best of their culinary skills.

Lapford AFC win Champions Cup

Lapford Football Club are “over the moon” to have won the Champions Cup in Division 5 of the Devon and Exeter Football League.

The cup was on display at their recent bingo night.

During the bingo night Adrian Mills thanked all the club’s supporters who regularly attend the fundraising bingo sessions.

A thousand rainbows raise £48,000 for CHSW

Exeter’s first ever Rainbow Run on Sunday (8 June) was a resounding success.

This crazy, fun event was raising money for the Children’s Hospice South West and 1,000 participants raised an astonishing £48,000 for the charity, which has three children’s hospices in North Devon, Cornwall and North Somerset.

Held at the Exeter Racecourse, this is the first time that the Rainbow Run has taken place in Devon.

Broadclyst parish residents are being asked by East Devon District Council and Broadclyst Parish Council to decide how to spend £11,800 available for sports in the area.

The Broadclyst Parish Council area includes the areas of Westwood, Budlake, Westclyst, Broadclyst Station, Cranbrook, and Blackhorse.
