Devon and Cornwall’s Police and Crime Commissioner is calling for action to prevent a continual drain on resources to support national policing. As part of the "mutual aid" agreement, the Devon and Cornwall force is required to provide officers for events such as the NATO summit and Olympics. However Tony Hogg is worried about the impact on effective local policing, particularly during the summer months when more than eight million people visit Devon and Cornwall.

Exeter city centre will be full of servicemen and women, past, present and future as it celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday 21 June.

As part of the city’s annual celebrations of the work of the Armed Forces, almost 800 servicemen and women from all branches of the armed forces will be marching through the City Centre with Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence taking the salute at the Guildhall.

Men who keep a mobile phone in their trouser pocket could be inadvertently damaging their chances of becoming a father, according to a new study led by the University of Exeter. Previous research has suggested that Radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) emitted by the devices can have a detrimental effect on male fertility. East Devon leads the way on the Wetlands

During the busy half-term week members of EDDC’s Countryside team hosted a visit from their counterparts in Poole, who wanted an in-depth look at the Axe Estuary Wetlands project.

Staff from Borough of Poole Council, Natural England, RSPB, Environment Agency and charity The Birds of Poole Harbour all made the trip along the south coast to learn about, and be inspired by, the work that has gone into making the Axe Estuary Wetlands what it is today.

South West Blog Social goes down a storm

Last Saturday (7th June) saw a whole host of bloggers descended on Exeter to take part in the South West Blog Social. The event, run by local bloggers Jodie Dewberry (@alajode) and Albertine Brandon (@dippywrites) brought together over 50 bloggers for a day of fun and girly pampering at Oddfellows Bar, New North Road.

Police fund new CCTV cameras in Tiverton

Devon and Cornwall Police has donated £2,500 to Mid Devon District Council in an initiative that will see an upgrade to Tiverton town’s CCTV system.

There are currently sixteen CCTV cameras plotted around the town centre and it is hoped that this will be increased by a further two. Images from each camera are sent via a fibre optic cable to the CCTV operating room and recorded on a digital video recorder which can be used in criminal investigations. The 2014 Michelmores Charity Run takes place on Tuesday 10 June, starting at 7pm.

The 5K event begins on Cathedral Green before taking in Princesshay, the Guildhall Shopping Centre, back to the Northernhay memorial statue and on to Rougemont Gardens, for a short uphill sprint finish at Exeter Castle.

It seems that every month there is a report on a company being hacked and personal data being put at risk.

Recently eBay hit the headlines as one of the latest victims of cybercrime and as a result, has asked all of its customers to reset their passwords.
