Firefighters come to Western Power's aid

Firefighters from Ottery St Mary and Honition kept Strawberry Lane, Ottery St Mary safe from a potential fire until Western Power arrived at the scene.

Crews were called to the scene, at just after midday today, after reports that an electrical power line had come down and the pole was smouldering and a nearby sub station was making popping sounds.

Crew remained at the scene until the arrival of Western Power.

Emergency services called to Marsh Barton

Emergency services were called to Trusham Road, Marsh Barton, after a collsion took place involving a motorcycle and a car.

The incident, which took place at 1.14pm on Saturday, resulted in 3 litres of oil being spilled at the scene.

A fire appliance from Danes Castle was mobilsed to the incident on the request of the police.

Firefighters helped to make the vehicles and area safe.

Village left without power

Many properties in Longdown, near Exeter, were left without power after an electricity pole caught fire and spread to a nearby tree.

Firefighters from Danes Castle were called to the incident, at Chapel Hill in Longdown, at just after 9pm on Friday.

Upon arrival, crews found one transformer arcing and on fire, western power were also requested.

The fire was extinguished, almost two hours later, after fire crews used one hose reel jet.

Western Power were left in charge of bringing power back to the area. However, it is not known what time power was back on...

In celebration of the Tour de France visiting our shores, cycling clubs across the region are hosting over 15 Go-Ride Tour events, to cement the legacy and give young people the chance to get involved with cycle sport. All youngsters across the area are welcome to turn up and take part in the entry-level cycle sport events, which will take place throughout this month.
