CAB concern over repossessions

Local charity, Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, has identified a massive 56% increase in private sector tenant repossession cases. This is in comparison with the same period last year and shows that pressure on household budgets is biting harder than ever.

Across all housing sectors, where a CAB adviser has assisted clients facing repossession, clients have avoided repossession in 85% of cases.

Exeter City Council has provided financial support for this essential service.

Exeter City draw against league leaders Luton

Match report: Exeter City 1 Luton Town 1

Exeter City came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against top-of-the-league Luton Town at St James Park.

It was no less than Exeter deserved from a performance which saw the home side control a bulk of the possession and create most of the chances, but it was always going to need a gutsy performance as the Hatters took an early lead.

It was Scott Griffiths that rose highest after just three minutes to head in a corner, leaving Exeter trailing at the break.

But with 20 minutes to play, Tom Nichols got Exeter on terms...

Chiefs serve up a Halloween weekend treat

Exeter Chiefs 28 Gloucester 27

On Halloween weekend, Exeter Chiefs served up their supporters a timely treat as they kicked off the defence of their LV= Cup crown with a thrilling 28-27 victory over rivals Gloucester at Sandy Park.

A converted penalty try – two minutes from time – proved the difference on the day, although the visiting Cherry & Whites could easily have stolen it had Aled Thomas not seen a penalty chance cannon back of the posts with the very last kick of the game.

In what was a pulsating encounter throughout, the Chiefs sealed victory thanks to...

Be vigilant as dark nights loom

Police and security experts have called on neighbours to join forces in a bid to tackle burglaries as dark nights loom.

Nearly three quarters of UK homeowners (73 per cent) would like to see more vigilance in their communities, according to a survey by home security firm ADT.

But two thirds (68 per cent) said they hardly know any of their neighbours after living on their street for an average of six years.

The research comes as new statistics reported a significant increase in burglaries during the autumn months – up to 10 per cent in some places.

Ricky Pellow expects to see a real hunger amongst his Exeter Chiefs side as they look to kick off the defence of their LV= Cup crown with victory over Gloucester tomorrow (3pm). This weekend, however, it all begins again for the Chiefs and Pellow, who has again been entrusted as head coach for the competition. As has become the norm in recent years for the club, youth will again get it'...

A group of intrepid Devonians are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime in the Hospiscare Sahara Trek 2014.

Twenty two walkers will be leaving Exeter at midnight on November 5 heading for a London flight to Marrakech. They will trek across the Sahara to raise thousands of pounds for Hospiscare, the local Exeter based charity which every year helps more than 2,000 local people and their families living with a terminal illness.

“We will be accompanied by the local Berber guides and camels will carry our food, water and tents,” said Celia Wilkinson, Hospiscare running and...
