Runners raising cash for Hospiscare in the Great West Run received star treatment. The local charity’s fundraising team played drums and cheered the runners at the start of the race in Exeter’s Sidwell Street.
When runners finished they were invited to the Southgate Hotel which kindly hosted a Hospiscare thank you party. Runners were able to shower, enjoy a much needed massage from Hospiscare volunteer complementary therapists and relax on the terrace with coffee.
The 32 runners have raised thousands of pounds towards Hospiscare’s £5m annual bill to provide professional...
A survey of women living in Exeter has revealed that nearly 80 per cent have received unwanted presents with more than half practising a pleased face before being given a gift.
The poll, by Persimmon Homes South West, also revealed not only the ultimate list of bad presents but who are the worst gift givers. A quarter said some presents had caused a row while more than half have now told people not to bother giving them gifts as they know they will not like them.
A circuit board, tin opener, ironing board cover and a toilet seat made the worst presents list. Of those...
Gidleigh Park has been named as one of the top ten restaurants in Britain by the Sunday Times.
Run by Devon celebrity chef and son of Exeter Michael Caines Gidleigh has won a raft of awards in recent years.
The newspaper said Gidleigh's food was "terrific" and the service "flawless".
However the restaurant slipped from the number one spot last year.
Michael recently announced that he and his team are set to oversee the operations of Kentisbury Grange, near Barnstaple, a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian Manor House, a hotel with 16 bedrooms in landscaped...
A late sucker punch from Tongan Lisiate Fa’aoso floored Exeter Chiefs in their opening European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture away to Bayonne.
The imposing lock stole over for a converted try two minutes from time to deny Rob Baxter’s side from a hard fought victory at the Stade Jean Dauger.
His try, along with others from Opeti Fonua and Pierre Sayerse, were capped off by an impeccable kicking display from home scrum-half Christophe Loustalot, who finished the night with a 15-point haul.
The Chiefs, who netted a losing bonus point for their efforts, countered with...

Experienced and knowledgeable birdwatcher Ian Waite has kindly agreed to lead this session, aided by the Education Rangers, to help children spot and identify birds at the Axe Estuary Wetlands near Seaton. There will be two sessions; 1.30-2.30pm...
Buckfast Abbey has received an 'Outstanding' award for its gardens in the RHS It’s your Neighbourhood Awards.

Parts of the gardens have been created by Charlotte and Andrew Rathbone from the Rathbone Partnership and they still work with the team at Buckfast, advising them on landscaping.
The gardens are partly modelled on medieval plans and in addition to the lawns, consist of a number of...
