Tributes to Olly, 12, killed in freak accident

Tiverton High School has paid tribute to a pupil who died after a freak accident during a football game.

Olly Croker suffered head injuries during the match between Bradsninch and Bampton on Saturday.

The 12-year-old is thought to have been struck by a wooden stake and was flown to Frenchay hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

Boy, 12, dies after freak accident

Devon and Cornwall Police can confirm that a 12-year-old boy who sustained serious head injuries whilst spectating at a football match at Bradninch Football club on Saturday 12th September has died overnight.

He was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following the incident before being transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital where he later died.

The youngster was hurt during a game between Bradsninch and Bampton on Saturday.

A police spokesman said: "Our sympathy and thoughts are with the family".

Life expectancy increases

Research published today in The Lancet has shown between 1990-2013 life expectancy in England increased by 5.4 years due to a fall in death rates from cardiovascular disease, stroke and other chronic diseases.
