Woman dies following Devon collision

A woman has died following a collision near Okehampton at the weekend.

Police received reports of collision between a Vauxhall Astra and a Renault Clio at around 7.50pm on Sunday 23rd August on the A386 Lydford and Mary Tavy, near Okehampton.

A police spokesman said: "It appears that the Clio was travelling southbound and the Vauxhall northbound when the collision took place. The 34-year old female driver of the blue Renault Clio hatchback was pronounced dead at the scene and two passengers from the car were taken to Derriford Hospital.

Princesshay will be hosting the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Bag It. Beat It. event on Saturday 5th September which urges the Exeter community to donate bags full of their unwanted items to be sold in local BHF shops.

Every bag donated will help fund life saving heart research, helping over seven million people continue to fight heart disease. Last year the BHF raised over £130 million from voluntary income alone. Workplace cancer deaths in Exeter

As latest figures reveal that 26 people in Exeter died from the asbestos-related lung cancer mesothelioma between 2010 and 2014, campaigners urge for more help for sick and dying workers. Exeter has the 66th highest mortality rate in England and Wales for the disease at 5.5 deaths per 100,000 people. We are very fortunate to live just outside Exeter, a city which now boasts a vast array of assorted eateries, bars and restaurants and we endeavour to dine out with our two boys at least once a month and have done this since the boys were small as I did with my parents introducing them to new flavours and learning to behave impeccably when dining out amongst the ‘grown-ups’. Details of RWC Exeter Fanzone revealed

Details of the Fanzone that will be set up in Exeter’s Northernhay gardens during the Rugby World Cup have been revealed.

City council officials have told the Exeter Daily that it will be open for 13 dates opening as early as 10am for some games and closing as late as 11.30pm for others.

Alcohol will be sold from 11am to 11pm (10.30pm on Sundays) .

The dates are as follows:

Corbyn rally to take place in Exeter

Labour leadership favourite Jeremy Corbyn is to hold a rally in Exeter, it has been announced.

The sudden popularity of the MP for Islington North has surprised his own party.

Opinion polls have put Corbyn ahead of his rivals Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.

A similar rally, due to take place in Cambridge this week, was postponed.

The organiser of the Canbridge rally announced that the event would be rescheduled due to police concerns over high numbers expected to turn out.

Unexpected guests drop in on radio star

BBC Radio Devon breakfast show presenter Simon Bates had some unexpected guests drop in (literally) yesterday.

The broadcaster, who lives near Tiverton, told his listeners he was "preparing for a bath and in his Marks & Spencer dressing gown" when there was a knock on the door.

He was surprised to see a stranger - and a hot air balloon, in his "back yard".

The drama was soon over however.
