Blundell’s U14 hockey team have been crowned Devon champions after winning all their matches at the county championship without conceding a goal.

They follow in the footsteps of the U16 team who pulled off the same feat last month.

The U14s beat Kingsbridge, King’s Ottery, Plymouth and Shebbear to top their group, then won a hard-fought semi-final 1-0 against West Buckland School, before making sure of the victory with a convincing 3-0 win over Exeter School.

The result owed much to the strength and depth of the whole squad (with no fewer than six different goal...

The Rusty Pig once again provided a takeaway for revellers at Tar Barrels to fundraise for the Carnival Committee. The outside catering in a converted cattle trailer on Mill Street was manned by chef Joe Draper from Ashburton. Joe and his helpers served up wood fired spicy mutton flat bread accompanied by Rusty Pig’s homemade feta cheese, garlic and herb sauce and pickled red onions. Fittingly, the mutton was supplied by Lewis Strawbridge, one of the Barrel Rollers. And to add a bit of extra heat to the evening, an almost unbearably hot chilli sauce was created by ‘Big’ Fran Lee. Over 200...

Following the tragic events in Paris, Devon & Cornwall Police is asking the public to be vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the police.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Middleton commented, ” To help maintain public reassurance and confidence the...

One in three of us drinking too much

A new study released today reveals that one in three adults in the South West are drinking too much alcohol, consuming it at levels that pose an increasing or higher risk of damaging their health.

But 83% of those drinking above the Government’s recommended guidelines underestimate their drinking, seeing themselves as ‘moderate’ or ‘light’ drinkers and 69% are not concerned about how much they drink.

They also do not understand the full impact that drinking too much could have on their health. Whilst the vast majority of those at risk understand the connection between...

Ospreys 25, Chiefs 13

Just as he was the scourge of England during the Rugby World Cup, so Welshman Dan Biggar did the same to Exeter Chiefs on their competitive return to the Champions Cup.

The Ospreys fly-half was the mastermind behind the Welsh region’s success story, plundering five penalties, a drop-goal and even converting a late try from former Exeter player Josh Matavesi.

Even then Biggar – who was named Heineken Man of the Match – could afford to miss three further chances afforded to him by the Chiefs, who fell foul of Italian referee Marius Mitrea on far too many occasions.
