More children to benefit from Bikeability training

Around 3,500 schoolchildren in Devon are to benefit from Bikeability cycle training over the next few months.

Devon County Council has successfully secured £140,000 of funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) to provide the training in the county by August. More than 7,400 children in Devon have taken part in Bikeability over the past year. Since 2009, Devon County Council has successfully bid for more than £1.7 million to deliver cycle training in Devon. 8th Exeter Pride event set to be biggest and most colourful yet

Exeter Pride returns for its 8th year on Saturday, May 7 and it will be the county's biggest and brightest celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other communities (LGBTQ+).

It is one of the most highly regarded Pride events of its kind in the South West and is being endorsed by key individuals and organisations.

Jack Sadler Award presented to two Heads of Section at Exeter School

Two Exeter School Combined Cadet Force (CCF) cadets have been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for outstanding contribution to the combined cadet force contingent (CCF). Warrant Officer and Head of Army section Amanda Herring and Flight Sergeant and Head of the RAF Section Ollie Brady were presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Colonel David Carson, Colonel Cadets for the South West.

RSPCA warm weather warning to pet owners

With temperatures set to soar to 20C this week, the RSPCA is issuing advice to pet owners to ensure their animals are comfortable and happy in the heat.

The Met Office has predicted highs of 20C on Saturday and Sunday, prompting the RSPCA to remind pet owners to consider their animals over the summer weather.

Labour retains control of city council

Labour has retained control of Exeter City Council.

The number of seats had been reduced from 40 to 39 following a review of electoral arrangements by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

Labour made gains from the Conservatives, winning 30 of the 39 seats.

Police continue to dig at former home of paedophile couple

Police are continuing to investigate the garden at the former home of a paedophile couple, who knew serial killers Fred and Rose West.

Excavations began on Tuesday 3 May in the rear garden of a bungalow in Bradnich, near Cullompton, following historic intelligence linked to the former occupants of the council-owned property, David and Pauline Williams.

David Williams was jailed for life in 2015 and his wife Pauline for 12 years for putting 10 girls and boys through rape, sexual assault and beatings.
