A THRIVING business support group has reported excellent growth for its members this year.

The Blackdown Hills Business Association, which was formed around 30 years ago, supports a range of companies, including new business start-ups, sole traders and SMEs, right up to large corporations all providing key services, based in the area on the Devon/Somerset border.

A Topsham-based designer of luxury kitchens and bathrooms has doubled the size of its premises and created two new jobs after securing a five-figure funding package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking. The funding has enabled Sapphire Spaces to acquire an additional unit adjacent to its current base at Dart Business Park. This brings its total floor space to 7,000 sq ft, giving the firm the space it needs to pursue its growth ambitions.

Festive fun for residents at Sidmouth’s Lymebourne Community Centre

A festive evening of song and Christmas decorations lit up Sidmouth’s Lymebourne Community Centre recently as tenants and residents from both Lymebourne and Arcot Park celebrated the season.

It’s the second year that East Devon District Council’s Community Development Team and mobile support officers have organised the Light Up Lymebourne event and this year Arcot Park residents took part too. Devon introduces jobs freeze to cut costs

A jobs freeze is being introduced by Devon County Council to manage a projected budget overspend.

The latest estimates show the budget will overspend by £8.1 million by the end of the financial year unless firm action is taken.

The jobs freeze will not apply to posts where the council would fail to meet its statutory responsibilities if it did not recruit a replacement worker.

In addition, no temporary or agency staff or consultants – apart from front-line social workers – will be taken on without the personal authorisation of chief executive, Phil Norrey.

Exeter City’s Ollie Watkins has been nominated for the League Two player-of-the-month award for December.

Ollie, who celebrated his 21st birthday on December 30, had a month to remember as he netted five goals in four games.
