Devon Council Leader welcomes £50 million pylon investment in Devon

With only two months to go before the completion of a £50 million project to refurbish over 300 pylons spanning 100 km between Cornwall and Devon, the leader of Devon County Council visited one of the most complex locations for equipment replacement – Trago Mills, near Exeter.

Councillor John Hart learned first-hand about the purpose of the works and technology that National Grid is deploying on the project. Innovations include Sky Safe where safety cables and machinery are suspended between pylons to avoid disruption caused by scaffolding.

Police appeal after man dies in crash on A38 Haldon Hill

A 54-year-old man has died as a result of a serious collision on the A38 at Haldon Hill on Sunday 8 October 2017.

Police were called at around 12.49pm to reports of a serious single-car collision between a car and a tree on the Plymouth-bound carriageway.

Emergency services attended the scene on the A38 on the Westbound carriageway. The collision involved a white Ford Fiesta car containing the male driver who was the sole occupant.

The driver, who was from Bovey Tracey, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and the coroner notified....

South West growth momentum slows in September

The private sector in the South West lost growth momentum in September, with business activity and new orders increasing at the slowest rates in three months, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI®).

The South West PMI recorded 52.9 in September, down from 54.3 in August. The rate of expansion was weaker than the UK average. A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity.

Data showed that, despite September’s slowdown in growth, South West firms continued to take on extra staff.
