A project is underway at Knightshayes as part of an effort to create an archive of recorded memories from people who met and knew Joyce, Lady Heathcoat Amory. The team at Knightshayes are on a hunt to find anyone who might have known Joyce, visited her, met her, played golf with her or have any memories they’d like to share. Judith Harris-Deans from Exeter has been volunteering for local charity Hospiscare for the last six years, and describes it as “the happiest place I’ve ever worked.” Since 2012 Judith has been popping into Searle House in Exeter to support the fundraising team with donations administration.
Judith described her typical day: “I usually come in once a week, but it’s a flexible arrangement so if I can’t make it in it’s never a problem, I just let them know beforehand. Likewise, sometimes I will come in much more often during busy times, like Christmas, when the team needs extra help....

Work to replace traffic signals at a junction in Exeter will get underway on Monday (9 October).
Essential maintenance is needed on the signals at the junction of Pennsylvannia Road, Union Road and Prince of Wales Road in Exeter. The traffic signals, poles and electrics are at the end of their serviceable lives and will be replaced, and repairs will also be carried out to cable ducting. As libraries across the country celebrate National Libraries Week 2017 from 9th – 14th October, critically acclaimed authors, Michael Morpurgo and Stella Duffy, have been named as the first Patrons of Devon-based charity, Libraries Unlimited.
The authors, both of whom have been awarded an OBE for services to literature and services to the arts respectively, will support Libraries Unlimited in its aim to promote and encourage a love of reading and enrich people’s lives with unlimited access to ideas, imagination, knowledge and creativity.

Alphington retirees Peter and Mary Collins began volunteering at the Hospiscare Warehouse Shop on Trusham Road when it very first opened in 2012. Every Friday, Peter would repair donated furniture ready for selling in the shops and Mary sorted bags of clothes, sizing them, putting them on hangers then onto racks for distribution.
