Devon Mammal Group Charity Auction

Devon Mammal Group is holding a charity auction on the evening of Thursday 29th March. They are raising money for the Devon Harvest Mouse Project – a citizen science project that is looking at the distribution of the harvest mouse (Micromys minutus) across the county. The surveys are conducted over the winter months, looking for the abandoned summer breeding nests, when they are much easier to spot. Over the last few months Devon Mammal group have searched across Devon and have trained over 100 people in the survey techniques.

Now they are looking to move the Project on to the next...

‘Holding Up’ by Edward Crooks launches at Castle Drogo

This week, artist and architectural designer Edward Crooks has launched a new theatrical installation called ‘Holding Up’ at Castle Drogo, a National Trust property on Dartmoor. The installation, which will be on display in the Library until 4 November, celebrates Castle Drogo as the product of fabricated stories and unbuilt proposals. ‘Holding Up’ is a large scale architectural installation, over 3 metres high, alongside a set of drawings, models and films, which invites visitors to explore the foundations holding up a vast unbuilt tower above Castle Drogo. A Probation Support Officer from Exeter is celebrating being presented with a prestigious award by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal at St James’s Palace in London, on 15 March. Over half of local employers struggling to hire skilled staff

More than half (56%) of South West firms are reporting difficulty recruiting skilled staff, and a third (33%) have seen increased staff turnover since June 2016, according to a new employment and skills study from Lloyds Banking Group and London business membership organisation, London First. The study sought to analyse the impact of Brexit on business recruitment and access to skills across the UK. Exeter Junior School raises thousands in Virgin Money's Make your £5 Grow scheme

Year 6 pupils at Exeter Junior School are celebrating a record year of fundraising for good causes through their involvement in the Virgin Money 'Make your £5 Grow' scheme.

In small groups, the pupils dreamt up, designed and made products to sell to their peers as part of their Independent Maths Project 2018, raising an incredible £2062.26.

The profit will be divided evenly between Sport Re lief, Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK and The Mardon Centre, Exeter, with one fifth going towards fun maths games to enhance pupils' learning further.
