In a UK first, the country’s largest and best-known house builder has created an apprenticeship in marketing at its Exeter division.

Barratt Developments has long appointed apprentices in bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing but this initiative takes apprenticeships in a completely new direction.

Streetlights linked to breast and prostate cancer

The “blue light” emitted by street lights including LEDs, and commercial outdoor lighting such as advertising, is linked to a significant increase in the risk of breast and prostate cancer, innovative new research has concluded.

A study led by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and involving the University of Exeter found that participants living in large cities with heavy exposure to blue lights at night had double the risk of prostate cancer and 1.5 times higher risk of breast cancer. This was compared to populations with less exposure to blue light.

Jack Sadler Award presented to Head of Exeter School's RAF Section

The Head of Exeter School's Royal Air Force section has been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for her outstanding contribution to the Combined Cadet Force contingent (CCF).

Flight Sergeant Meredith Marsh was presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Commander Katharine Armstrong (RN) during the biennial CCF inspection on 27 April.

Residents at Lucerne House care home in Exeter, are celebrating after it performed strongly in a nationwide survey of care home residents and their family members and friends.

The results, launched today, show Lucerne House was given an Overall Performance Rating (OPR) score of 924 out of 1,000 by residents, an improvement of 31 points from last year, and 865 by their family members and friends, an improvement of 23 on last year.
