The mother of a 13-year-old girl from Exeter, has publicly thanked Caudwell Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, after they funded a specialist sports wheelchair for her daughter.

Amelia Kwiecinska has spinal muscular atrophy, a condition that makes the muscles weaker and causes problems with movement.

Amelia cannot stand or walk and is a full-time wheelchair user. Her condition has affected her social life as it makes it difficult for her to mix with other children.

Mat Cole, director of Dartmoor Farmers Association (DFA), scooped gold in the ‘sheep innovator’ category at the awards event held at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham.

Dementia in Devon set to soar by 39% in the next decade

The number of people with dementia in Devon is set to soar by 39%, warns a report published today, commissioned by Alzheimer’s Society from the London School of Economics and Political Science [1].

The report predicts that as our population ages, a higher proportion of people with dementia will have higher care needs for longer, driving up the average amount spent on care.

Exeter College hosted the road safety team Learn2Live to talk with students on the dangers of the road and how the impact of a wrong decision can last a lifetime.
