Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin has made a donation of £1,000 through its Community Grants programme to local charityExeter Community Initiatives (ECI). The money will be used to fund the charity’s work with families, adults experiencing social isolation and/or mental ill health, and those with experience of homelessness or who are vulnerably housed.

ECI helps people in Exeter and Devon facing poverty, inequality and homelessness to get their lives back on track. They do this by involving them in community projects to improve their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, increase their sense of belonging and provide the skills to help them succeed in life.

Although the charity quickly adapted its services to cope with the pandemic and is staffed by a dedicated team, it has still seen a drop in its income over the past year, with such things as the closure of its charity shop.

Caroline Lake, Exeter-based Brewin Dolphin’s head of diversity, inclusion & wellbeing, and a trustee of ECI, said:  “The last year has really highlighted why the work carried out by the team at Exeter Community Initiatives is so vital. They quickly adapted to the government restrictions to ensure that the vulnerable people and families that they serve were not further marginalised by the situation. I’m very proud to be a trustee of ECI and cannot praise the team enough for their dedication to our communities and their determination to find ways to continue delivering their services.”
