Merging two well established legal firms is quite an undertaking, but as of the 1st April 2018 Wollen Michelmore merged with Morgan & Pope in Exeter, making this their 5th office around Devon others include Torquay, Newton Abbot, Barnstaple and Dartmouth.

The Morgan & Pope team have now been working comfortably under their new name ‘Wollen Michelmore’ for over 2 weeks. Charlotte Mcgregor, Partner at Wollen Michelmore (Previously Morgan & Pope) states that ‘We were delighted to be able to retain 95% of our staff as part of the merger negotiations and this was important for both parties. We were keen to ensure that staff felt engaged with the merger both from a morale perspective but also because we recognise that without them we wouldn’t have such great relationships with our clients. They are the face of our Firm and this applied both pre- and post-merger.’

Clive Meredith Practice Director highlights; ‘It was clear from our first meeting with Stephen and Charlotte that although our firms were very different in size, the culture of the firms was very similar.  Both had a strategic goal of growth through serving our clients in the communities we live and work in.’

What the merger means for Clients & stakeholders of Morgan & Pope:

Whilst there may be some delays as the team get used to their new systems and ways of working, the merger has many benefits for both parties and their respective clients. Charlotte McGregor continues ‘The Clients of Morgan & Pope can now enjoy a wider range of legal services and consolidation of those services which we had offered for many years. The clients of Wollen Michelmore now have access to the same great range of legal services in the convenient location of Exeter which has been particularly beneficial for our corporate clients and those who require easy access to the Exeter Courts.’

Wollen Michelmore who pride themselves on their corporate social responsibility, are now keen to be able to build new relationships with businesses, events and charities in Exeter. In addition to this University students who have completed their LPC will be able to apply for a training contract with the firm.  Clive Meredith Practice Director commented.

“The Exeter office is a great opportunity for our trainees to build experience as part of a larger firm and will play a major role in our future development of trainee solicitors.”
