Students from Exeter College have been celebrating success following the National BTEC Awards 2019.

A total of nine Exeter College students were recognised at an awards ceremony that took place in Westminster in July. The event celebrates exceptional BTEC students and apprentices while also shining a light on the inspirational teachers who have influenced their learning.

Exeter College’s Luke Bearpark was crowned Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Student of the Year with Abbie Densham being awarded Science Student of the Year.

International Baccalaureate (IB) results put Exeter College ahead of the international curve

Exeter College students are celebrating after achieving the best International Baccalaureate (IB) results in the college’s history.

This year the prestigious IB saw a 100% pass rate, with almost a third of students (32%) achieving 40+ points. This is the equivalent of five A Levels at A/A*, putting them in the top five to ten per cent of students in the entire world. Two candidates achieved an incredible 43 out of 45 possible points.

Buckfastleigh Primary School, in Buckfastleigh, Devon, recently partnered with charity organisation, Fiver Challenge, in order to help pupils to develop real-world skills including financial management and leadership.

Groups of children from Reception through to Year 6 were challenged to design and create a product or service for a total of £5, gifted by the charity. Across a four-week period, pupils then had to create a logo, business name and sales pitch before selling their products and services at a fair last week, hosted by the school and attended by parents.

Seven-year-old Livie Yelland has scooped a top regional prize in a national gas safety competition for her eye-catching poster which warns of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and the signs to look out for.

Livie, who attends Pinhoe Primary School, won the Key Stage 1 South West of England entry of the ‘Get Creative, Be Safe’ competition picking up a prize of £150 for herself and £300 for her school at an event at the House of Commons.

Year 12 students from South Dartmoor Community College and Atrium Studio School, part of South Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust, rubbed shoulders with professional artists and crafts people during the weekend of the prestigious Craft Festival held in Bovey Tracey.

Two students from South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton, Devon, have been named as the first recipients of a new award for students who show bravery or go above and beyond to help others and the community.

The Captain and Mrs Jones Cup has been set up after a local man Anthony Jones, bequeathed funds to reward students who have positively contributed through acts of courage. South Dartmoor Community College teams up with Giving World

South Dartmoor Community College has teamed up with national charity, Giving World, in a new initiative which will benefit all students at the school.

The school in Ashburton has called the scheme the 'Room of Requirement' – after the Harry Potter books – and has seen it receive dozens of items for free that students can claim. The haul includes 150 pairs of socks, 30 pairs of gloves, 240 bottles of spray disinfectant, 176 tubes of hand cream, 72 bottles of shampoo, 120 pocket travel guides, 20 hairbrushes, 1,000 biro pens, 10 cookery books and 150 reading books.

An Exeter School Sixth Former has been given the opportunity of a lifetime thanks to a former pupil. Lower Sixth pupil George Heard has been offered an all-inclusive work experience placement in China thanks to the generosity of leading educational consultant Julian Fisher (1993 -2000).
