As a student, you will write a lot during the course of your time in school. Even then, you will never stop writing as you might be required to prepare some reports in the workplace. That is why is imperative that you take time to understand what is expected of good writing and how you can improve. The skills will come in handy when writing essays as it is something that can’t be avoided in a school set up. We have compiled some of the qualities that make for good writing and we’re going to highlight some of them.

Simplicity

Good writing is simple. You don’t have to include complex vocabulary in order to drive your point home. When you’re writing an essay, the professor will be looking at the coherence of argument instead of the fancy words that you’ve used. You should expect the same standards even when you purchase research paper. Simple means that the person that is reading your work can understand it without a lot of difficulties. Good language composition is all about expressing thoughts in the most simple and direct ways. A good writer should be able to express different topics in ways that can be understood by the reader.

Unity

When writing about a topic you’re passionate about, there is a high chance that you will have a lot to say about it. It is easy to go off on a tangent thinking you’re putting your points across. Good writing is all about the unity of thought. You want to be able to express yourself in a meaningful and logical manner. You might have good ideas but they’re all over the place. The unity of flow is crucial if you want to make sure that you’re essays are standing out.

Focus

If it is an essay, there will obviously be a topic that you’re supposed to write about. Make sure you have the main idea in mind throughout your writing. A good essay will have the introduction, body, and conclusion. The body is where the meat is. If it is creative writing, you get to develop the plot and throw in the twists. Almost all kinds of writings will follow this order. You don’t need to bombard your readers with unnecessary information no matter how tempting it might be.

Authority

Your reading needs to be authoritative if you’re to keep the reader’s attention.  You want to give the readers confidence that you know what you’re talking about. A good composition is when the writer is well informed and is an authority on the subject. You can also write an outstanding essay provided you’re doing research and following the necessary guidelines depending on the type of writing you’re working on.

Style

There are different writing styles you can adopt but it is important that you don’t lose your voice in the process. Your style is what will make you unique and make you stand out. It is easy to get carried away with a particular style of writing but that will take away the fun. There are no exact rules when it comes to a writing style. It could be a combination of different writing styles that you admire.

Conciseness

This will differentiate good writing from bad writing. Depending on the audience, your readers will prefer if you get straight to the point. You avoid unnecessary words which don’t contribute to the writing. There are students that are notorious for increasing word counts in assignments by including fluff. This is something that professors have become accustomed to and you might fail because of failure to reach the word count.

Reader-oriented

You should have the reader in mind while writing. Your audience has particular needs that they will want to see being addressed in the writing. It doesn’t matter the purpose of the writing, understanding the needs of your readers is imperative. You might think that you’re doing everything right but the potential audience sees things differently. You can research the needs of your potential audience before coming up with the piece of writing.

Writing Form

There are different forms of writing that you should be aware of. You might be good in short stories but that doesn’t necessarily mean you will be an excellent academic writer.  You should focus on your strengths instead of trying to be a jack of all trades.

To conclude, there are no specific rules you should be following in order to become a good writer. The guidelines we’ve highlighted should be able to help you in the process.
