The famed Pozzo football family, owners of Udinese FC in Italy and Watford FC in England, normally keep a low international profile. Recently, however, the Pozzos have become quite vocal in their expressions of vehement opposition to what they consider a premature re-opening in both Serie A in Italy and the Premier League in UK, even as fans clamor for reopening.

The father and son, Giampaolo and Gino Pozzo , who own Udinese FC and Watford FC respectively, have repeatedly expressed their concern for their clubs’ athletes, medical staff, and supporters, echoing the safety concerns...

Exeter’s Director of Rugby was speaking after the Professional Game Board, which incorporates representatives of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) Premiership Rugby, Rugby Players Association (RPA) and Championship Clubs, today gave provisional authorisation for Premiership and Championship Rugby clubs to move to Stage 1: Elite Sport Return to Training Guidance.

Most of us have religiously shown our appreciation for NHS staff and key workers by raising the roof each week but very few will have gone to the lengths Devon Olymipan Jo Pavey has.

In an Astley Media In Conversations With webcast she revealed that on one occasion she took part in the 8pm tribute while running on a treadmill.

Jo had been asked to take part in a live-streamed, fundraising indoor relay but realised her slot coincided with the regular Thursday night celebration.

And so, undeterred, she managed to do both.

She said: “I was running on the...

Sport, and football in particular, has remained at the forefront of many people’s minds over recent times, with the prospect of the English Premier League returning in the near future being hugely exciting. While questions remain unanswered surrounding whether Liverpool will claim their first title, who will finish in the top four and which teams will face relegation, the return of top-flight encounters would add significantly to the options for betting customers, who have recently been struggling to find appealing markets. A host of betting apps are currently available to punters in the...

Caulfield Cup set to switch in Spring Carnival schedule

The 2020 Caulfield Cup looks set to be moved to the end of November as part of dramatic changes to Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic across the world is set to result in the latest-ever Caulfield Cup, which is one of the three crown jewels on the Australian racing calendar.

Horse racing in Australia has managed to continue with only minimal impact during the world wide Covid-19 outbreak, but that doesn’t look like it will mean the Spring Carnival schedule remaining unaltered.

The Group 1 Caulfield Cup is usually held in...

Baxter plotting Chiefs return to action

Rob Baxter insists players across Premiership Rugby, including his own at Exeter Chiefs, will be given the best medical provisions as they look to return to training next month.

Director of Rugby Baxter believes restarting training for a return to top-flight action during the current coronavirus outbreak can be done safely - and that implementing the guidelines laid out in the government’s white papers are not as hard as some people think.

Speaking on BBC Radio Devon, Baxter said: “There are challenges currently, but I think the big thing from me - and it’s something I’m...

Do you own a piece of Exeter City Football Club?

Exeter City Football Club is attempting to trace around 100 people who have bought shares in the club over the last century.

The club, which is legally obliged to hold an up-to-date share register at St James Park, is making a concerted effort to track down a number of missing shareholders or the next of kin of those who have passed away.

It is believed the earliest shares date back to the 1930s and may have been passed down through people’s families.

Nick Hawker, chair of Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, said: ‘We are making a real effort to find all the Club’s...

The exciting rise of Exeter’s own Ethan Ampadu

The county of Devon isn’t hugely renowned for producing world-class footballers, with only a handful making it at Premier League level in recent years. Middlesbrough’s George Friend, from Barnstaple, made 24 appearances in 2016/17, while Torquay-born Ollie Watkins has been a star for Brentford in the Championship since 2017.

There are of course others who’ve enjoyed great careers in soccer, but it’s perhaps Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu who has the potential to become the greatest player produced by the county in a generation.

In this article, we will discuss his early life and...

Chiefs have 'real desire' to finish season - Rowe

Exeter Rugby Club chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, insists there is a ‘real desire’ from within the club and from Premiership Rugby to ensure the 2019/20 season is completed.

Although the table-topping Chiefs have not played a competitive fixture since beating Bath 57-20 at Sandy Park back in early March, Rowe is confident that a return to competitive action is not all that far away.

Rowe’s optimism comes following the announcement earlier this week where the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), Public Health England (PHE), the Department for Health...

Tour of Britain postponed until September 2021

The organisers of the Tour of Britain have announced that this year’s race has been postponed.

Devon County Council had been due to host Stage Two of this year’s race in September with a route that was planned to start in Sherford and finish in Exeter.

However, the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic has prompted Sweetspot Group, which runs the Tour, to confirm that the event will now be re-scheduled to September 2021.

The Tour had consulted with British Cycling, sponsors and partners of the race to help reach its decision. All agreed that the pandemic...
