Merryn Elworthy will make her 100th appearance in a Chiefs jersey as domestic women’s rugby returns with the PWR Cup on Saturday.

Having made her 99 previous appearances as Merryn Doidge, Elworthy will make her milestone appearance under her new surname following her wedding in the summer.

The 24-year-old played in her first game for Chiefs against in Gloucester-Hartpury in October 2020 after making the move to Sandy Park from Bristol Bears Women.

Some of the biggest names in cycling will be competing in this year’s Tour of Britain, and if you’re planning to watch them in action in Devon on Monday 6 September you can take your pick of 115 miles along the route.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic medallist and six-time Tour de France stage winner Wout Van Aert will make his Tour of Britain debut next month. The Belgian star is the second rider confirmed for this year’s Tour, which starts in Penzance, Cornwall, on Sunday 5 September and will race into Devon the following day (Monday 6 September). At the Tokyo Olympics, 128 archers took part in individual competitions: 64 men and 64 women. 12 men's, 12 women's and 29 mixed teams fought for prizes in the teams scoring. Thanks to the successful qualification for the Olympics, Britain was represented by 3 men and 3 women: Patrick Huston, Woodgate James, Tom Hall, Sarah Bettles, Bryony Pitman and Naomi Folkard.

Around 115 miles (185km) of the county will feature in the Devon Stage of this year’s Tour of Britain on Monday 6 September.

We asked Freddie Scheske, Devon-based pro cyclist and University of Exeter graduate, to give us his verdict on the route which starts in Sherford and finishes in Exeter.
