Devon project ‘The Devon Active Villages’ are urging locals to give them their support and help them win this year’s National Lottery Awards. The Devon Active Villages project, by Active Devon, is a finalist in this year’s award’s Sport category; one of seven categories that will recognise the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.

The Devon Active Villages works with people to discover what sports they enjoy, and once they have gained this information they try to arrange for these sports to take place in local communities and villages. So far the group has helped around 10,000...

The UK economy has seen a £9.9bn trade and investment boost from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, one year into a four-year programme of activity and events. The boost comes from businesses securing contract wins, additional sales and new foreign investment in the last year, since UKTI’s British Business Embassy at Lancaster House hosted a Global Investment Conference and a series of 17 business events – the largest such programme ever held in Britain. Further evaluation reports published by the Government and Mayor of London today (19 July) show strong progress against all the...

Swansea allow Exeter to keep all gate receipts at upcoming friendly

Exeter City Chief Executive Julian Tagg has given his thanks to Swansea City for allowing the Grecians to keep all the gate receipts from the upcoming friendly fixture at the Park on Sunday – and is urging fans to come along to enjoy the match and help the club financially. In normal circumstances, it is commonplace for teams to share the proceeds of the gate in cup and friendly fixtures. However in this instance, Swansea have magnanimously allowed Exeter City to keep the gate takings – therefore meaning that every pound that is paid on the day will be of benefit to the club. The Swans...

Armand seals Chiefs move

Newcomer Don Armand has spoken of his "excitement" at the challenge that lies ahead after he completed his move to Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs. The 24-year-old forward has agreed a two-year contract and joins the Devon club from South African Super 15 outfit Stormers. Armand, who can play either at lock or in the back-row, made his Super Rugby debut as an injury replacement in 2012 and has not looked back since. He was part of the squad that won the SA Conference, having earlier in the year tasted success with the DHL Western Province Vodacom Cup team and, later in 2012, helping...

Spitfires' first season flying by!

The Exeter Spitfires are now past the half way point in their first season in the South West Baseball League. It has been an excellent inaugural season so far for the club in a number of ways.

The Spitfires have already gained their first ever win, something that was not necessarily expected against more experienced teams and, although they have suffered 18-15 and 19-9 losses to the Bristol Bats and a 9-0 loss to the Plymouth Mariners in their last three games, improvement was shown in a couple of those games as the players gain more experience.

Equally as important this...

Promising signs as City win second game of pre-season warm-up

It took two goals in as many minutes to settle matters, with Jimmy Keohane and Jake Gosling getting their names on the scoresheet.

Sam Parkin made his first start in City colours, having had to miss the first pre-season game against QPR. Trialist David Wheeler was also amongst the starters.

A bright City start saw the Grecians create the first real opening as Jake Gosling and Wheeler linked up well on the right flank, but a good block led to a corner which...
