Spitfires' first season flying by!

The Exeter Spitfires are now past the half way point in their first season in the South West Baseball League. It has been an excellent inaugural season so far for the club in a number of ways.

The Spitfires have already gained their first ever win, something that was not necessarily expected against more experienced teams and, although they have suffered 18-15 and 19-9 losses to the Bristol Bats and a 9-0 loss to the Plymouth Mariners in their last three games, improvement was shown in a couple of those games as the players gain more experience.

Equally as important this season has been the development of the game in Exeter. The number of players joining the Spitfires has steadily increased over the season and new players are frequently attending training sessions.

Youth Baseball has been coached and promoted by the team, with two local Secondary Schools already involved and others interested. The first youth game was also played recently. A small, but dedicated number of supporters have also been attending Spitfires games and this number will hopefully increase as the club receives more exposure through the press, the club's official website and Facebook page and their official section on the British Baseball Federation website.

The busy year is set to continue. This week the Spitfires return to action on Sunday as they face the Torbay Barons in Paignton (12pm start). Further youth coaching will be taking place soon and the club hope to unveil a new logo in the near future. As always, training also continues on Monday and Thursday evenings at Chadwick Field, St. Luke's Sports College. beginning at 6.30pm and new players are always welcome.
