Exeter College's Festival of Carols set to kick off Christmas

Date: 5th December 2019 

Location: Exeter Cathedral 

Timings: Doors open 6.30pm, 7.30pm start 

Admission: Free, donations to college charities welcomed 

Exeter College’s annual Festival of Carols will be kicking off Christmas in the stunning setting of Exeter Cathedral, complete with performances from college students; all in the name of charity.

Mihangelf Promotions bring Banco de Gaia to South Devon

Mihangelf Promotions is a relatively new music promotions enterprise in South Devon putting on live music. 

Thus far, there have been five events at the Unit 23 Live venue in Totnes, formerly South Devon Arts Centre, a short hop away on the train or up the A38. 

The enterprise is run by music lover Mike Fraser who lives local to Totnes. 

Genres of music focused on are psychedelic rock, psychedeliic/ambient/world dance and progressive rock, though don't be surprised at the occasional reggae or folk event.

Ladies Do Lunch, Exeter’s premier dining club, celebrated Christmas with a superb champagne and canapé reception and a sumptuous lunch at Lympstone Manor near Exmouth. Celebrity chef Michael Caines (pictured above) took time out from the kitchen to say hello to the assembled members.  Founder and hostess Sally Sedgman reduced the room to uncontrollable laughter with her account of Chaos at Christmas, a hilarious guide to putting the festive season into perspective. 

Exeter Audi steps it up a gear to celebrate new state-of-the-art centre

Over 200 guests helped to celebrate the official opening of the new £8.5m Marshall Exeter Audi terminal building, almost double the size of the former centre and with extensive customer parking.  The event helped to showcase the latest Audi Terminal concept and the glittering 15-car showroom. 

Exeter Chamber of Commerce celebrates 150th Anniversary

Exeter Chamber of Commerce celebrated their 150th Exeter Anniversary in style with 360 people attending the annual Exeter Business Dinner which took place on Friday 17th November at Sandy Park Conference Centre.

Charlie and AJ Courtenay, Earl and Countess of Devon, gave the main address of the evening, sharing their vision for Powderham Castle in the future, as well as an insight into the ancient family’s part in the city and region’s history.

Ladies Do Lunch, Exeter’s highly successful dining club, paid a visit to the recently refurbished Deer Park Hotel near Honiton where they enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the beautiful Italian garden, looking resplendent in the early Autumn sunshine. 

Then followed a tour of the kitchen garden from head gardener Ollie who passed on some tasty tips about growing vegetables and herbs. 

After a champagne reception, the ladies enjoyed a three course lunch in the hotel’s award-winning Loxton’s restaurant.

Denley's Essence of India Summer Showcase

Award-winning Topsham Restaurant, Denley’s Essence of India, hosted a Summer Showcase last week, for local businesses in Topsham and the local media to sample its latest dishes, as well as the kitchen’s specialities.

The restaurant, situated on the main road through the village, seats up to 40 people and has been recognised by the British Curry Awards for its fantastic cuisine from across the regions of India. With a selection of dishes and appetisers for all to enjoy and sample, the restaurant was packed with food lovers - it was a night to remember!

Showcasing the future of green energy in Exeter

A team of local experts made up of renewables company Beco Energy, Exeter City Council and protective film specialists, Packexe, have recently collaborated to produce a showcase for the future of green energy in Exeter.

The exciting project is part of a wider initiative to encourage business based on Marsh Barton and Sowton Industrial Estate to ‘go green’ and improve the local environment through renewable technologies.

The event was a roaring success, with tempting canapés supplied by Taste Catering and plenty of wine, speeches and laughs from everyone.

Last time, it was hard hats and high viz jackets all round as Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed an exclusive preview of Lympstone Manor, celebrity chef Michael Caines’ new country house hotel. 

Four months on,  the dress code was definitely summer for the Ladies’ first lunch there since it officially opened. 

They were welcomed by Ladies Do Lunch hostess and founder, Sally Sedgman.

Friday evening (28th April) saw the 3rd Kirk Hills Omelette Challenge take place at Exeter Castle as part of the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink.

12 business people from in and around Exeter were invited to rise to the challenge and endeavour to make the fastest omelette in the South West.

Exeter School hosts British Shooting Target Sprint

The South West qualifying event for the National Series 2017 is open to all, aged 11+, and organised by ex-British Pistol Shooter Georgina ‘Gorgs’ Geikie who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Gorgs grew up on the edge of Dartmoor and, inspired by the success of local heroes Kate Allenby and Steph Cook at the Sydney Olympics, initially took up modern pentathlon. She made the English Commonwealth Games Team in Melbourne 2006, winning bronze medals in 2006 and 2010 as well as competing at the London Olympics.
