Ancient Holy Well Forms Centrepiece for new Dartmoor Community Pageant

The spirit of a medieval saint will be evoked in a new community ritual for Dartmoor, which aims to reconnect people with water and the land.

St Gudula’s Well in Ashburton, an ancient holy well, will be the focus of the ceremony, which will honour water as the source of all life, and also celebrate the start of summer.

‘Gudula’s Gathering’ has been conceived by events curator and writer Kirsteen McNish, and Helen Bruce of the Dartmoor Preservation Association, as the closing event for the Dartmoor Tors Festival.

Last time, it was hard hats and high viz jackets all round as Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed an exclusive preview of Lympstone Manor, celebrity chef Michael Caines’ new country house hotel.

Friday evening (28th April) saw the 3rd Kirk Hills Omelette Challenge take place at Exeter Castle as part of the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink.

12 business people from in and around Exeter were invited to rise to the challenge and endeavour to make the fastest omelette in the South West.

The South West qualifying event for the National Series 2017 is open to all, aged 11+, and organised by ex-British Pistol Shooter Georgina ‘Gorgs’ Geikie who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Businesses from around Exeter came together for an early morning networking breakfast to launch YMCA Exeter’s exciting 2017 campaign, Changing Rooms, Changing Lives.

This will see the renovation of the currently unhomely communal living space at its St David’s Hill accommodation centre, currently used by over 50 young people.
