Science on tap: Exeter pubs to host Pint of Science 2026 

Some of Exeter’s best-loved pubs will be hosting this year’s Pint of Science, offering up fascinating talks on everything from atoms and galaxies to understanding neurodiversity.

Running from 18-20 May, this year’s festival marks the 13th edition of the annual event, which brings researchers out of the lab and into local bars in 42 cities across the UK.

In Exeter, venues including the Bootlegger, Arcadia and City Gate Hotel will transform into hubs of scientific discussion with informative talks, demonstrations, live experiments, and a multi-city pub quiz competition....

Yachtsman to speak about ‘Mutiny’ adventure

A yachtsman who helped recreate an epic voyage for a new Channel 4 documentary will give a talk at the University of Exeter later this month.

Exeter-born Conrad Humphreys stars in Mutiny, in which a team re-live Captain Bligh’s voyage of survival after the mutiny on the Bounty.

The programme follows nine men as they attempt a 4,000-mile trip on a tiny wooden boat using traditional navigation equipment and surviving off the same meagre rations as Bligh’s crew.

Humphreys will speak about leadership, camaraderie, courage and humility on the high seas.

Monthly winners announced in Teignbridge recycling campaign

Teignbridge residents continue to play their part in improving street cleanliness and increasing recycling rates, as the latest monthly winners of the Council's 'Operation Stack' campaign are announced.

Mr Colin Williams from Kingsteignton was drawn as January’s winner and joined by Dawlish resident Mr Church as February’s lucky recipient of a recycling goody bag, containing a set of recycled wine glasses, a left overs recipe book and various food waste reducers.

Exciting progress is underway at Knightshayes Court as the National Trust property starts work to replace the current oil heating system with an environmentally friendly biomass heating system. Visitors will see lots of activity taking place throughout March and spring as a new, sustainable biomass heating system for the house and stables building is installed.

The Community Fun Day at Cranbrook has been hailed a success after attracting hundreds of people keen to walk and cycle more often, helping in Cranbrook’s aim to be a healthy town.

The event, organised by Devon County Council, Action East Devon and Cranbrook Town Council, was a hit with families who enjoyed a variety of entertainment on offer throughout the day.

A dog-loving nine-year-old has raised hundreds of pounds for homeless hounds after challenging herself to a 20-mile sponsored walk around the Devon countryside. Faith Boxer, from Honiton, walked 20 miles over several weeks after splitting the mileage into four, five-mile stints with the support of her Gran, who helped her organise the whole thing and plan her route. Trading Standards warns of illegal skin lighteners

Illegal skin lighteners, containing potentially harmful products, have been found on sale in our region.

Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service say that the creams are similar to products which have been on sale in London. Trading Standards officers have seized a considerable quantity of illegal skin lightening creams that were being sold over the internet by a Devon-based trader.

The creams, which were being imported from the Philippines without any safety checks being carried out, contain hydroquinone, a bleaching agent.
