Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they have recently been offered very young Shih tzu puppies for sale, if they are concerned about the provenance of the dogs.

Both dogs are four weeks old and unweaned. One is a male black and white and the other is a female, brown and white.

The dogs were taken from a residential property in Colleton Way, Exmouth on Sunday 23rd April, sometime between 8.30pm and 9.10pm. The house was unoccupied for the short space of time that the owner was admitted to hospital and a family member arrived to look after the property.

It is believed that a person or persons unknown entered the property through a rear door, and took the four-week-old puppies.

Cash was also taken from a safe upstairs.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Paul Perryman said: “We are very concerned to return these four-week-old puppies to their mother. That dog is distressed having had her puppies taken from her.

“The puppies are not yet fully weaned and are likely to become ill very quickly, so we urge anyone who is offered them or who knows anything to get in touch with police immediately.”

You can contact the police by emailing 101@dc.police.,uk or by calling 101, or do so anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via the charity’s website at www.crimestoppers-org.uk in all cases quoting reference CR/030502/17.
