Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

WESC Foundation tree announced as winner of Princesshay’s Charity Christmas Tree Festival

The WESC Foundation’s decorated tree has been named winner of Princesshay’s Charity Christmas Tree Festival, featuring thirty-five trees decorated by charities from across Devon.

The popular annual Christmas Tree Festival, located on Roman Walk, Princesshay, was officially opened on Friday 17 November by the Lord Mayor of Exeter and will be in situ until Christmas Eve. Runners up were FORCE and the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.

Police appeal after elderly pedestrian injured in Exeter crash

Police were called just after 9.15am on Thursday 25 November with reports of a collision between a Vauxhall Astra and an 86-year-old local woman on Cowick Street, Exeter.

The serious collisions unit attended the scene to undertake initial investigation work.

The woman was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with serious injuries including a fractured skull and injuries to her leg.

Roadshow inspires Devon to 'get composting'

Residents from across Devon have been inspired to recycle more food thanks to a series of composting roadshows.

More than 1,000 pledges to recycle food waste were made by residents visiting one of the 11 road shows across Devon.

Composting is the most effective way to reduce waste - at least 30% of the contents in an average household bin can be composted.

The roadshows, run by Recycle Devon, aimed to inspire more people to either compost food or garden waste at home, or make use of their food waste collection in areas where they have one.

Players from Exeter City Football Club will be donning their Sugar Smart Exeter t-shirts this Saturday (November 25), for their warm up before their league match against Accrington Stanley.

Sugar Smart Exeter is an ambitious campaign to encourage the community to come together in tackling the amount of sugar people in Exeter consume. Fire crews tackle Devon property blaze

The Fire Service were called to a report of a property fire in Kingsteignton Road, Chudleigh at 20.44 yesterday.

Initially three fire appliances were mobilised from Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot along with an Operational Assurance Officer. On arrival crews confirmed the property was well alight and requested a further fire appliances which proceeded from Ashburton, Torquay and Teignmouth.

New community space rapidly taking shape in Topsham

A new community space that will benefit thousands of people is rapidly taking shape in Topsham. Work on the Estuary Community Hub started in May and is scheduled to be completed and ready to open next summer. A Grass Roots grant – money raised through local developments like IKEA – is helping towards the construction and fitting out of a new two-storey contemporary building on the site of the old Topsham Library. Dartmoor Zoo, renowned for its international conservation and education programmes, has welcomed 167 young women and schoolgirls to an evening of inspiring talks, expert advice, and close-up encounters with some of the zoo’s smaller amphibian and invertebrate residents.

Stagecoach SW announces Christmas services

Stagecoach South West has confirmed details of its Christmas bus services, with services operating throughout the holiday period excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day*.

Stagecoach has added extra journeys to its Red (Honiton Road) Park and Ride service on late night Thursdays. There will be additional buses from the city centre every half hour between 8.10pm and 10.10pm.

Exeter Santa Run returns to the CITY centre

PLACES are selling fast for one of Exeter’s most fun festive events – the city centre Santa Run.

And Exeter City FC defender Pierce Sweeney has donned a Santa hat to give his backing to the event.

Around 600 people are expected to put on Santa suits and run either the 2.5k or 5k route around the centre of Exeter on Sunday, December 3.
