Later this year, four women from Devon will be taking part in the world’s toughest rowing challenge – the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Rowing 3,000 miles unaided in a 28 foot rowing boat across the Atlantic Ocean, the team is hoping to become the fastest all women crew to complete the challenge. To ensure they are prepared for the physical trials of this gruelling adventure, the team has been undergoing a strict training regime, with the help of infrared smart sportswear brand, KYMIRA Sport.

The UK’s leading marine charity says it hopes more people than ever before in Devon will take part in the 25th Great British Beach Clean (14th - 17th September) - an annual event run by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

Drivers warned of overnight closures at Alphington junction

Overnight closures will be needed at the Alphington junction of the A30 next month (September) while essential resurfacing work is carried out.

A collection of unusual antique fans assembled over many years is to be sold at Chilcott Auctioneers’ next sale.

The fans belonged to Jane Campbell-Allan, originally from Stirlingshire but who lived in Devon for most of her life until her death in 2017.

Jane was known as an eccentric lady with a wicked sense of humour who enjoyed collecting antiques, especially jewellery. But it was fans that caught her imagination. Her interest is believed to have started after an elderly aunt gave her an antique fan when she was young.

New patrol boat for the Exe Estuary

A new patrol boat has been launched in the Exe Estuary to help protect wildlife and ensure water users stay safe.

The 5.75-metre-long patrol boat has been funded by the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee (SEDHREC) -- a partnership of Teignbridge, Exeter and East Devon Councils set up to help protect internationally important conservation sites on the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren and East Devon's Pebblebed Heaths.
