Bus company Stagecoach Southwest is celebrating its local communities and the Environment this week.

The week also marks the end of a month long Getting There Together initiative across Stagecoach companies within the UK which has also focused on customer service, safety, wellbeing and inclusion

Stagecoach Southwest will hold activities to help raise money for local charities and to help promote protecting the environment.

Charity activity will include a ‘Safety with Stagecoach’ day at St Peters School, Exeter on the 17th October. Presented to year 7 pupils, each class will be given safety information and top tips from Stagecoach employees around the importance of road awareness as well as receiving their own high-vis jackets.

The Torquay depot will also be filling a bus with old clothes from employees to donate to the local British Heart Foundation and Rowcroft Hospice charity shops.

A children’s book called Stagecoach Saves the Buzzy Bees has been published by Stagecoach Group. Copies of the paperback book, whose cartoon characters are based on well-known Stagecoach transport vehicles, have been donated to all children wards in local hospitals including Barnstaple, Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth, as well as doctor’s surgeries. The book tells the tale of a swarm of bees that have lost their way and have found themselves on board a tram. The day is saved when they are delivered to a field where local children are sowing wildflowers. The story shares the important message that bees are not to be feared and are vital in keeping our crops and plants alive.

To help spread the word of the importance of bees and bugs to a wider audience, Stagecoach Group has also developed to help teach viewers how to build a bug hotel. The video is available here:  https://youtu.be/47c_E0EdBAk

Free copies of the book are also available at the travel shop in Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay and Barnstaple.

The campaign week marks the end of a four-week series of events across Stagecoach called Getting There Together. The initiative placed emphasis on a number of key areas including customer service, safety, wellbeing, community and environment.

Stagecoach Southwest Managing Director Bob Dennison said: “We understand that our services are important to local communities. Whether we’re taking people to work, taking them shopping or to visit their families we play an important part in our passenger’s lives. This is why we want to give something back and hope that by raising funds for local charities and donating these books we can have a positive impact on our local communities.”
