Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

Tree planting initiatives take root

The County Council has teamed up with the Woodland Trust and the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum to encourage communities and landowners to plant more trees.

Ten trees were planted in the grounds of County Hall last week by pupils from St Leonard’s Primary School and members of the Devon Youth Parliament as the Council marked National Tree Week and joined the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback.

Cofton Holidays granted planning permission for luxury lodges collection

South Devon’s multi award-winning holiday park, Cofton Holidays, has received planning permission to build a collection of 12 luxury lodges, which are due to be completed in 2020.

Located near the pretty coastline at Dawlish Warren, construction work has started on the bespoke Copse Lodges collection and is set to be completed by next spring.

University of Exeter signs Global Climate Letter and halts investments in fossil fuel companies

The University of Exeter is one of nearly 250 higher and further education institutions who have signed a Global Climate Letter which will be presented at COP25 in Madrid on Friday 6th December and on Thursday 12th December during a UN event on Climate Change Education. A further 16,696 institutions are represented by network signatories.

One of the region’s transport experts has warned that a ‘cultural shift’ in our attitude towards on-road transport is needed if Devon is to become a net-zero county.

Nik Bowyer is a member of Devon’s Net-Zero Taskforce and Chair of the South West region of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.

‘Naked’ otter sculptures were unveiled at a special event today to mark the next exciting steps of Dartmoor National Park’s Moor Otters arts trail 2020. The event held at Bovey Castle, and hosted by Dartmoor National Park, gave artists the opportunity to collect their sculptures so they can start transforming them into stunning individual works of art. At the same time, businesses and supporters were able to learn more about how the funds from Moor Otters sponsorship and sales will go towards important conservation projects so people connect with Dartmoor and care for it in the future....

Young people spending Christmas in an Exeter hospital will be given special presents to open on Christmas morning thanks to a nationwide campaign organised by The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust.

According to the latest WWF data, 80% of the people in the South West are concerned about the environment.

The environment comes joint second in the UK list of concerns as a nation-beating crime, economy, housing, education and employment, only behind healthcare.
