Devon County Show launches first‑ever Community Growing Hub

The Devon County Show is proud to announce the launch of its first‑ever Community Growing Hub, a major new feature for 2026 designed to inspire visitors of all ages to get growing, get gardening, and get connected. The Hub will be hosted by horticulturalist and community growing advocate Kenny Raybould, who will lead a team of volunteers offering hands‑on advice, and practical support throughout the three‑day show.

Households in Exmouth will receive their own map of the town that showcases the best of the outdoors. The maps will be delivered by Royal Mail by 24th April.

Wild Exmouth , a three year community nature project, has produced a wonderful map to highlight trails and cycle paths along with parks, nature reserves, play areas and community orchards.

The UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, CLIC Sargent , is calling on Exeter’s residents to come out and support its shop as they open their doors again on Wednesday 14 April , following the national lockdown.

Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew members launched their inshore lifeboat this morning following a 999 call reporting a kitesurfer in difficulty off the East Devon shoreline.

At 11.38am today Thursday 15 April 2021 Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat D-805 George Bearman II was launched having been tasked by H.M. Coastguard to a report of a kitesurfer struggling and apparently in difficulty. He was sighted between Sandy Bay and Budleigh Beach.

The number of nature lovers who took part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch soared to a million people this winter after a year of lockdown restrictions saw people turn to nature for comfort.

Now in its 42nd year, the Big Garden Birdwatch is a chance for people of all ages to count the number of birds that visit their garden, helping the RSPB build up a picture of how birds are faring. Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew members launched today to rescue a female kayaker who became unwell and capsized in the River Exe off Lympstone Manor.

Six on-call firefighters from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service made history this week (12 April) when they completed the End Point Assessment of the operational firefighter apprenticeship. This is a national first – it is usually only wholetime firefighters who take this apprenticeship.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is breaking boundaries in offering the same training and development opportunities for both on-call and wholetime firefighters.

The Exeter and District Ramblers have produced a collection of hand-picked trails to encourage Exeter residents to get outside and discover a new side to their city.

The collection has been published as a book called Walking Around Exeter, with contributions from different members of the group and tested for accuracy and clarity. The 16 routes in the collection range from 2.5 to 7 miles in length, and are suitable for all ages and abilities.
