Westbank’s Community Allotment made accessible to all thanks to Kier’s volunteers

Manpower and materials donated to Westbank Community Health and Care by the Kier Group have transformed the charity’s Community Allotment at Exminster into a space that’s accessible to everyone.

Eleven local volunteers from Kier’s Natural Resources Nuclear & Networks division recently worked over a total of about 4 days to create a tarmac access ramp, level the ground and lay a concrete pathway to make the allotment accessible to wheelchair users. The monetary value of the work amounts to approximately £7,000, including labour and materials.

Community unites to support disadvantaged schoolchildren

Generous businesses, organisations and individuals have come together to support hundreds of disadvantaged children across the Exeter area in a fantastic display of unity.

In just 10 days, a total of almost £30,000 has been raised to buy devices for children most in need and most at risk of falling behind in their education due to the pandemic. Now, thanks to that generosity, primary schools in Exeter and children attending the Cranbrook Education Campus will be able to access a library of devices which will be loaned to children who are learning from home.

The annual and much-loved Christmas Sleigh drive-by will take place throughout December, 7pm-7:30pm weekdays and 4pm-7:30pm at weekends, in Okehampton and the local area.

Photography winner Paul donates tree to popular park

The winner of a photography competition has donated his prize of a tree to a popular city park.

Generous Paul Osborne didn’t have room in his own garden so instead allowed the tree to be planted in Heavitree Pleasure Ground.

The park is one of Paul’s favourite haunts and the location for his winning photograph – a stunning image of a blue sky above a group of oak trees.

Devon residents can now buy a range of low cost, safety-checked, TVs and other electrical products from a number of the county’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

The scheme is being run by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd, who operate the HWRCs for Devon County Council. A range of electrical products is now on offer, including vacuum cleaners, lamps and Flat screen TVs.

The goods are being sold within the re-sale shops of five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

A group of charity-minded Exeter College students have been inundated with knitted clothing after a post asking for donations went viral on Facebook.

A tutor group of Health and Social Care students have been collecting various knitted items for distribution to neonatal units around the country to help keep babies that are premature or with additional needs to stay warm in the days after birth. New £3.45m programme to boost skills of care and health workers

Proud to Care Devon has successfully secured £3.45million of European funding to help Devon’s health and care workers develop new skills and to encourage others to join the profession. The money was awarded by the European Social Fund, and follows a successful bid by Devon County Council in a partnership with Torbay Council, Plymouth City Council, Devon’s NHS trusts and education and training providers.
