Local authorities fund Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving to help get local people into work and support regional employers to secure the drivers they need

Wellbeing checks offered to Devon's carers

Staff from Devon Carers will be working hard over the next three months to highlight the issues that face carers and the support available for them.

A local awareness-raising campaign will focus on identifying carers who might benefit from a Carers Health and Wellbeing Check.

Extra £7m to Repair Devon's Roads

Devon is to receive nearly £7 million in Government funding to repair roads damaged by the winter storms, the Transport Secretary has confirmed today. The funding comes after Devon County Council reported last month that at least 11,500 potholes had been reported on Devon’s roads in January and February alone. The number of potholes reported on Devon’s 8,000 Mile road network is unprecedented and significantly higher than a normal winter which typically only sees around 2,000 potholes across a whole season. The Devon County Show has rolled out a brand new mobile website designed to be used on all smartphones and small tablet devices.

The new site, available to view at the usual web address - www.devoncountyshow.co.uk - helps visitors using handheld devices to get the most out of their day at the Show on May 22-24 at Westpoint, Exeter.

Officers from Teignbridge District Council and the Environment Agency are taking to the waters to check water flows with the little help of a harmless fluorescent dye.

Teignbridge and the Environment Agency are carrying out detailed water movement surveys at Teignmouth Beach on 17 and 25 March in an effort to help minimise the risk from pollution.

Paignton Zoo staff save tiny rare baby

Dedicated keepers at Paignton Zoo are caring for a rare baby that weighed little more than a CD at birth.

The pygmy slow loris – which weighed just 22 grams when it was born - was one of twins born to a first-time mother. One twin did not survive, and keepers stepped in to save the other when its mother abandoned it.

For the first night head mammal keeper Craig Gilchrist slept in an office in the Zoo, feeding the minute youngster every couple of hours. It was given SMA gold cap milk replacer using a 1ml syringe and a small rubber teat.
