Guitar indie-pop band Pale Waves and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon are the latest acts heading to the south Devon countryside for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

The bands are joining the line-up for seven-time GRAMMY Award winning Canadian / American artist Alanis Morissette ’s headline show with special guest musical powerhouse Skunk Anansie at TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham on Friday June 26.

Fire crews to strike this weekend

The Fire Brigade Union has voted to take a further four days of strike action in England (excluding control staff) in a dispute with the Government over pension reforms. Starting on 31 October at 18.00 hours until 4 November at 18.00 hrs

The issue continues to remain a matter between the Fire Brigades Union and Government. Devon Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has substantial contingency plans in place to ensure that it will continue to respond to emergency incidents throughout strike action.

Police launch arms amnesty

Devon and Cornwall Police is holding a two week amnesty for the surrender of unlawfully held or unwanted firearms and ammunition. Members of the public can hand in items at police stations in Exeter (Heavitree Road), Torquay, Plymouth (Charles Cross and Crownhill), Barnstaple, Bodmin, Camborne, St Austell and Truro between 3 and 17 November. They will be able to do this without fear of prosecution for possession while at the same time disposing of their weapons safely. Body recovered from Exeter Quay

Police recovered the body of a man from the water at Exeter Quay yesterday morning (27 October).

Police were initially contacted and responded to an incident after growing concerns for a missing 35-year-old man in Exeter on Sunday evening (26 October).

Whilst police searches where underway a man was reported to have entered the water at Exeter Quay, near Haven Banks at around 1.15am.

Police helicopter, police staff and the fire service water rescue team were deployed and undertook an extensive search of the area, but were unable to locate the missing man.

October ends on a temperature high

It may almost be November but temperatures are expected to hit 17C in Exeter today (Tuesday).

A project to carry out major repairs at Exeter Cathedral can now begin, thanks to funding from the government’s First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund for England’s Cathedrals.

Exeter Cathedral’s award of £277,547 is part of a package of £8.3 million in grants for 31 English cathedrals announced today by Culture Secretary Sajid Javid. The money has come from a government-sponsored fund set up to support vital repairs to some of England's most important historic buildings.

People are being asked to help shape Exeter City Council’s licensing policy for the future.

Wilberforce, a seven year old Labrador Retriever, belonging to Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, just missed out on a place on the podium in the 22nd annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition.

The competition, organised by the Kennel Club and Dogs Trust, took place on Thursday (23rd October), in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster.
