It might seem early for some, but Christmas is never far from the minds of the staff and volunteers at Knightshayes, the National Trust property on the out skirts of Tiverton; and this year the team are pondering a very unusual question – what to do about the jolly man himself?

They are looking for volunteers to support extended opening hours over the winter and, in particular, help with events in the run-up to Christmas. The property will be decorated for Christmas from 3 December with ‘Meet Father Christmas’ events running on the 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December. There will also be late night opening with the exterior of the house and part of the gardens illuminated.

Alice Morgan-Brown, Visitor Services Manager for Knightshayes explains: “Our Christmas events are hugely popular and a brilliant way for families to explore Knightshayes and enjoy a traditional Christmas experience. We are looking for people to play Father Christmas and Mrs Christmas, to help support craft activities and storytelling in the house, as well as provide additional support to our room guides and buggy drivers.”

By increasing opening hours over the winter, the team hope that more people will discover Knightshayes and support the charity’s care of the Grade 1 listed house and its 260 acre estate of gardens and parkland – a much loved and appreciated asset for the local community.

If you think you might be interested in helping out with any of the events, please call the property office on 01884 254665 or email Knightshayes@nationaltrust.org.uk.
