Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is appealing for volunteers.

The advice charity, which is based in Dix’s Field, is recruiting for information guides and gateway assessors.

RSPCA alarm at badger cull restart

The RSPCA is alarmed that despite three years of failed culls the UK Government is now forging ahead with plans to kill badgers in six different areas.

Three counties, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Dorset were subject to culls in 2015 and now it has been announced Defra will be licensing new areas in north Cornwall, north and south Devon, south Herefordshire and west Dorset despite strong public opposition to the scheme.

Man dies after car plunges off cliff

Police were called at 1.15am on Sunday 21 August 2016 with a report of a blue BMW X5 which had left Torbay Road and driven through a barrier and then over the cliff at Corbyn headland, coming to a rest on the beach.

RNLI, Coastguard, police, ambulance and other emergency services attended the scene. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 41 year old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Passengers travelling through South Wales and the South West over the August bank holiday are being advised to check before they travel as Network Rail carries out essential work to install part of a new signalling system for the Bristol area.

Work on the latest phase of a link road between the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point and the city, is underway.

Devon County Council’s £2 million scheme, which is being funded by developer contributions, will form the next stage of the Tithebarn Link Road.
