Exeter care home residents beam with joy during unforgettable owl therapy visit

Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Cadogan Court, in Exeter, have recently been treated to a truly memorable experience, as a very special guest paid them a visit. Supported by his animal caretaker, a beautiful three-year-old wood owl named Bill filled the Home with smiles.

Residents and staff had the chance to see Bill up close, gently stroke his chestnut-coloured feathers and learn more about this fascinating bird. The session provided a calming and engaging activity for everyone involved, with residents expressing their delight at meeting such a unique animal. The opportunity to interact with Bill sparked conversation, curiosity and joy throughout the Home.

Clare Walker, Home Manager at Cadogan Court, says: “It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces. Bill was incredibly calm and well-behaved, and our residents absolutely loved the experience. We are always grateful to Tavistock Goat Therapy for bringing such special moments to our home.”

Animal therapy visits play an important role in supporting residents’ wellbeing, offering comfort, stimulation and meaningful moments of connection. Bill was brought in by Tavistock Goat Therapy, an organisation that, as its name suggests, supports people through therapy goat visits. They had already visited Cadogan Court with some friendly goats in the past; this time, however, everyone enjoyed a surprise visit from Bill the owl.
