Want to know more about changes to your recycling and waste collections starting in June? Come along to one of our information days

Service change already introduced in Exmouth and will be rolled out district-wide from June 12, 2017

East Devon’s recycling and waste team is holding a series of information events across the district over the next few weeks to help residents with the new collection changes which begin next month.

From June 12, all East Devon households will be able to recycle more than ever before as the council has added extra recycling materials to the items households can currently put out for collection from the kerbside every week. The new materials are cardboard, cartons/Tetra Paks, plastics including pots, tubs, bottles and trays and small electrical items. As so much more is being recycled every week, waste collections will be carried out every three weeks. Over the last week, letters outlining the changes have been sent to 51,000 households and further more detailed information will be sent out to residents later this month.

Recycling officers will be on hand to explain the new service at several events being held over the next few weeks.

They will be at:

• Feniton village on Wednesday 10 May from 7am to 1pm
• Budleigh Salterton Library on Thursday 11 May from 9.30am to 12.30pm
• Clyst Honiton Fete on Saturday 13 May from 1pm to 5pm
• Sidmouth Library  on Wednesday 17 May from 9.30am to 12.30pm
• Honiton Library on Tuesday 23 May from 9.30am to 12.30pm
• Axminster Library on Thursday 25 May from 10am to 12 noon
• Ottery St Mary Library on Thursday 1 June from 10am to 1pm
• Axe Vale Festival on Saturday 17 June from 10am to 5.30pm

The new service has already begun in Exmouth where almost 17,000 households are now recycling more than ever before. The service started in the town in mid-February, and within the first six weeks of the new system residents were throwing away 15% less than they had done before and recycling almost 60% of their waste.

Further information about the new service is available on the council’s website – www.eastdevon.gov.uk/onboard and includes a full list of what residents will be able to recycle. You can also follow the council’s social media service on Facebook at East Devon District Council and @eastdevon on twitter.

If you want to be kept fully up-to-date about your new collections, download the council’s really useful smart phone app which will send you reminders about your collection days tailored to your own address.
