Older adults cut drinking in half with Devon-based programme

People who took part in Devon’s Drink Wise, Age Well programme cut the average amount of alcohol they drink on a typical drinking day by half from 15 units to 7. They also reported reducing the number of drinking days per month from 28 at initial assessment to 13 upon discharge from the programme.

The National Lottery Community funded programme was first established in 2015 in response to 1increasing alcohol harm in the over 50s, with initial research showing that older adults were facing particular challenges when trying to get help with alcohol problems.

Stroke patients benefit from new garden at the RD&E

Patients on the Acute Stroke Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust are now able to relax in a new, upgraded garden.

Work began on the garden in Autumn 2018 on the Acute Stroke Unit, otherwise known as Clyst Ward, to convert the area from a space that was not easily accessible or beneficial to the recovery of patients, into an area which improves overall wellbeing and that patients can enjoy. The garden is now easily accessible from the ward with a wide range of brightly coloured plants in raised flower beds for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.
