Summer activities for all at A la Ronde

There’s no need to struggle for ways to entertain the family over the summer holidays. Just look towards your local National Trust property, A la Ronde, near Exmouth, where there’s a wealth of activities to keep everyone entertained.

The Vikings invade Exeter Cathedral Geen

Exeter Cathedral will be invaded by Saxons and Vikings on Saturday 12 July, with a re-enactment on the Cathedral Green.

Learn about their way of life, before heading into the Cathedral to see how some of them died and what they have left behind in terms of their physical remains and their cultural artefacts.

The Exeter book, a unique collection of Anglo Saxon poems and riddles, will be on display in the Cathedra as well as some human remains excavated from the Cathedral Green.

Children across Devon will have the chance to get involved in an exciting reading challenge in their local library this summer holiday, in conjunction with Devon County Council and the Reading Agency.

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, entitled the ‘Mythical Maze’ also aims to improve children’s health and wellbeing and promote physical activity.

Over 9,000 children took part in the library service's Summer Reading Challenge last year - a record number of challengers.

This year the council is hoping for more, and is encouraging children to read six books or more...

Kids can learn circus skills at festival

An exciting family community festival is being held by East Devon District Council in Honiton on Saturday 12 July at Allhallows Field.

Following the success of last year’s event, the fun afternoon, running from 1pm to 4pm, means children can enjoy face-painting, circus skills run by SWITCH, a bouncy castle and many other attractions, all for free!

Among the other attractions on the day will be HitDrumsNotPeople – an African drumming workshop, Sports with Honiton Youth Club and a fingerprinting demonstration by Police.

Bookings are now being taken for Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community roadshows, which are again running throughout the summer holidays across the region. Open meeting for separating parents

The charity Families Need Fathers is holding an open meeting in Exeter next month for parents and carers to find out more about the changes to the family justice system brought about by the new Children and Families Act 2014.

The Act heralds the biggest change in family law for a quarter of a century and the meeting is an opportunity to find out how this will affect separating parents.
