Forget Brazil - Exeter is the home of soccer this summer thanks to ECFC's Football In The Community Roadshow

Bookings are now being taken for Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community roadshows, which are again running throughout the summer holidays across the region. The events kick off with a Summer Launch Party on Monday 28 July, which is a full day’s festival of fun and games for children aged 5-14 at St Luke’s Science and Sports College and costs just £10.

“We are doing something a little bit different at our party to launch the summer events this year,” said Scott Walker, sports development officer. “As well as football, we are going to be offering taster sessions in tennis, table tennis and athletics. We’re going to be running events in all those sports this summer, so this is a great way to try them before booking on to a course.”

The World Cup theme will also continue, with special days to mark the event in Exeter, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple.  There will be three roadshow dates in Exeter, plus events in Dawlish, Exmouth, Teignmouth, Cullompton, Honiton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Crediton, Tiverton, Feniton, Okehampton and North Tawton,. There is also a full programme of roadshows in North Devon at Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, South Molton and Woolacombe. The programme then continues through the whole of August finishing with a two-day roadshow at St Luke’s Science and Sports College on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 September.

Specialist futsal days for children aged 7-14 are being held at the University of Exeter on 8 and 29 August, while three Goalkeepers’ and Strikers’ days are running on 4 and 22 August and 1 September. The ever-popular Match Mania events are on 14 and 26 August. There are also one-day courses for tennis, table tennis and athletics in Exeter, as well as disability events on 8 and 28 August.

“We are offering more courses than ever before this summer,” says Scott Walker. “We hope there is something for everyone here. Children need plenty of exercise and stimulation during the summer holidays and what better way to keep fit and have fun than to combine sport with making friends?”

All roadshows apart from the futsal days are suitable for boys and girls aged from five to 14 and the main focus is fun and participation through team and individual games. There are daily competitions and prizes to be won, plus everyone goes home with a goody bag and certificate. All courses are delivered by Exeter City’s FA-qualified coaching staff.
