Devon trio unites to create an innovative health garden at Chelsea Flower Show

Three leading local companies have joined forces in a high-profile charitable project aimed at rewilding the environment, promoting healthy eating and raising awareness of bowel disease.

The project has been commissioned by Bowel Research UK with the aim of constructing a ‘Microbiome Garden’ that reflects a healthy gut. It has been funded by Project Giving Back and designed by top garden designers, Chris Hull and Sid Hill.

BBC Children in Need encourages Exeter’s schools to go Spotacular

Lloyds Bank is calling on schools across Exeter to join the 2017 BBC Children in Need schools fundraising campaign ‘The Big Spotacular’ and help once again raise a record breaking total for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Last year’s campaign saw local schools including Happy Days South West fundraise £44,202 in support of the charity. Hundreds of pyjama-clad runners, joggers and walkers from across Devon turned up at glorious Knightshayes near Tiverton on Sunday 17th September to take part in the Hospiscare Breakfast Run. The novelty event which featured a 5 or 10k route attracted runners from all age groups and abilities, with 482 people joining in to raise much-needed funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The participants enjoyed an off road course with some challenging inclines and were rewarded for their efforts at the end with a delicious breakfast from the Stables Kitchen.

A local company who raise funds for a children’s cancer charity have teamed up with Exeter Chiefs to make a day to remember for local families who have been affected by cancer.

Barratt Homes staff complete charity skydive

Staff from Barratt Homes in Exeter have completed one of their most ambitious charity challenges – a skydive over the South Devon countryside.

Thirteen brave souls from the housebuilder’s regional division in Exeter completed the challenge to raise money for the Exeter Foundation.

Local charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has a new initiative for September. The charity is encouraging supporters to donate postage stamps to help raise funds for the charity’s three children’s hospices in the region.

All kinds of stamps can be donated; new, old, used and collectable. Large quantities of stamps can be sold online to collectors, and the money raised will help the hospices to provide support and care for local children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Local radio and TV personality Judi Spiers has set off with her long term pal, Gus Honeybun to visit as many coffee mornings as they can in September.

Knockout day at Topsham raises vital funds

Teams from across the area took part in a day of fun and games at FORCE Cancer Charity’s third annual It’s A Knockout event.

More than 300 people tackled a series of challenges at Topsham Rugby Club including giant inflatable obstacles, water slides and foam-filled bouncy games.

It’s one of the most colourful events on the local fundraising calendar with all the teams in fancy dress.

September street party to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer

Local lady Wendy from Chudleigh will be hosting her annual, fun-filled street party on Saturday September 2nd. This year she will be raising money for a charity close to her heart, Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Wendy, owner of the Bishop Lacy Inn on Fore Street organises the community event to bring everyone together for a day of celebration that anyone can come along to free of charge.
